Gps Navigon
GPS technology has been around for a few years now, but millions of people have not discovered the value of GPS navigational systems for their cars, homes or cell phones. By now most people are familiar with online maps and directions available at sites like mapquest and Google maps. But I know some fairly sophisticated, fairly well-off people that don’t have a navigational system in their vehicles or on their cell phones.
For someone that happened upon GPS when I bought my wife’s last car, there is no way I could see my future existence without one. The salesman took us for a ride and demonstrated the functionality of the system. After having the car for less than a week, I knew I would always have GPS systems in my cars and the days of the Thomas guide were winding down. Don’t get me wrong, I have a solid sense of direction and don’t get lost very often. And I think it is this thinking that keeps people from investing in a GPS system – even a portable hand-held version. GPS navigation is not a luxury it is a necessity and worthwhile investment.
I have a friend who actually still pulls over, and looks things up on the Thomas guide – and sometimes even “Asks for directions.” Not only is that lame, but its unnecessary and inefficient. And after his research, he calls me up and gives me turn-by-turn directions. I’ve told him on multiple occasions, that I do not need the directions, but he doesn’t seem to understand. I think taking him for a long complicated drive is in order. Mario has the financial capability of adding GPS to his car, and certainly to buy a portable TOM TOM, Navigon, Garmin, or Magellan unit, but he just doesn’t understand.
I initially had the GPS navigational system added to my wife’s car because her sense of direction is, well, let’s just say she could use it. But it is not just for people that are sense of directions challenged. We often take the kids to sporting events in far off places at various schools near and far and we have no idea where these gyms or schools are. So now we are able to plug in an address and just follow along with the audible directions. And that’s not all. Often we don’t even have an address, just a school name. We can plug in the name of the school, and voila, we are presented with turn-by-turn directions. What could be easier?
After seeing all of the GPS’s capabilities and all the additional features it offers, I put one in my new car. Now, finding a park, an ATM, or a gas station is a breeze. The next generation of GPS navigational systems may also be able to direct you to gas stations with the lowest price per gallon. With the current price of gas, that savings can actually pay for your GPS unit.
