It was about 5 years ago when I receive a phone call from Joe the plumber. They had an extra spot and wanted to invite me on a fishing trip to Costa Rica. Money was tight and I really didn't have the time but I was determined to make it happen. I'm really glad I did because it was a trip of a lifetime. Beautiful sunsets, incredible surfing and the fishing was the best I have ever experienced. We caught Dolphin, Yellow fin Tuna, Wahoo, Pacific Sailfish, Striped Marlin, and we even had a 500 pound Blue Marlin on for about 2 minutes. While the Marlin was screaming drag and the captain was scrambling to clear the spread, I was rushing to get my camera ready. This angry giant of a fish jumped into the air only couple of times before freeing himself, but I managed to capture him on film for a lifetime! Don't let life pass you by.
Friends, countrymen, and honored Ezine Authors, it would have been easy to have said no to that trip but look what I would have missed out on. My goal today is to share some inspiring stories that will get you to take action and so you won't let life pass you by.
A friend of mine was sharing a story with me the other day. See when he was 16 he got into an argument with his grandmother. These things happen, however she decided that she was not going to speak with him because of the things he said. She passed away 2 years later having not spoken to her grandson. Reach out to family members. Life is too short. Don't let life pass you by.
My Dad would duck hunt with us every year and this one year my brother and I were really wackin and stackin the ducks. For some reason the next group of ducks came into the decoys and we let our dad have them. He fired three shots and didn't hit a feather. We didn't think too much about it at the time. Keep in mind that this is the same man that had 20-15 vision. He was an excellent marksman and had been bird hunting most of his life. About a month after that last duck hunt my dad was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration. His vision was reduced in his dominant eye by 50%. He hasn't been hunting or picked up a shotgun since. Don't let life pass you by. You never know when things in your life might change.
I was speaking a dog owning buddy named John on the phone one day and I heard him crack open a beer over some noise in the background. I asked him what he was doing and he responded with, "Exercising the dog." I said, no you're not, your drinking beer." "Oh yes I am exercising the dog". See I drink beer while Alex runs on the treadmill. John helped me train Taz my prize winning Pudelpointer.
I had a chance last month to attend the NAVHDA training day. John even called and invited me since he was making the trip from Pensacola to Lake Wales. I just could not find the time or rather I didn't make the time. I knew there would be others. Not this time. I was sharing some pictures last Sunday and I received a response from one of John's friends. "Did you get the news, John's liver is failing and they have called in Hospice and they have given him only a week to live." I would have had the chance to see John last month and take some pictures of him and his new dog that he was training. Don't let life pass you by.
It has been about 4 years since my brother, dad and I went Snook fishing on opening day! I was determined to make this happen. I kept the hurricanes away, convinced my brother to take a couple of days off from work and made the trip to my parents even with my busy schedule. We had a blast and caught about 12 Snook and managed to even catch 3 keepers! I took some awesome pictures of all of us holding up some heavy fish. Nobody cooks tempura Snook, garlic rice, cole slaw, and hush puppies like my parents. What a meal, fit for a king. Don't let life pass you by.
A buddy of mine was hunting from the ground one day. He spotted this cute little baby fawn, and guess what, it was heading right towards him. He cracked a smile and decided that he would stay completely hidden in the bushes and if that fawn gets close enough he will lunge out and bear hug it. You know, what can a little innocent baby fawn do? He almost couldn't contain himself and just about lets out a giggle as this fawn is just five feet away and coming closer. Finally the unsuspecting, innocent, and venerable fawn walks right in front of him and he lunges out and bear hugs the fawn! Before he can blink an eye the fawn flips on her back and kicks him in the eye, the forehead, and chest causing a black eye, bloody forehead and some bruised ribs! He could not release that deer quick enough and the innocent little fawn scampered off to go forage for some more acorns!
Meanwhile my buddy is left to crawl back to his blind, bleeding, hurt bad and thinking twice about ever trying to bear hug a deer again. Don't let life pass you by but don't grab any baby deer either.
The late great Benny Hill once said, "Never put off tomorrow what you can do today, because if you do it today and you like it, you can do it again tomorrow!"
